Brave & Safe
A Place for Courageous Conversations

Brave & Safe: A Place for Courageous Conversations is a multicultural community event that creates a brave, safe and inclusive space to discuss issues surrounding racism in the Ottawa community. Our mission is grounded in the belief that Canadian youth are the future’s social impact leaders, and are vital in creating an inclusive, anti-racist, and safe community in Ottawa. This program is being funded by the Canadian Race Relations Foundation (CRRF) and was developed in partnership with the Anglican Diocese of Ottawa and Julian of Norwich Anglican Church. We believe that through proactive discussions and panel presentations we will help encourage Ottawa’s youth to take a stand against racism. Our event, online presence and resources aim to encourage collaboration, discussion, education and leadership in Ottawa youth.
About the event:
This event will be taking place on March 25, 2023, at Julian of Norwich Anglican Church in Ottawa. Our speakers will each provide a 30-minute speech/presentation about their experiences. In addition to these 30-minute individual speeches, the speakers will participate in a moderated panel Q& A with questions from the youth participants. We will end the day with a facilitated discussion on ways forward, and what tools and tactics our youth can use to build change.
We are offering a hybrid session combining in-person and a simultaneous virtual option, which will allow participation from across the country. Depending on COVID restrictions at the time of this event, our contingency plan will be to pivot the event to online only.
We will also feature performances from local Black, Indigenous and Asian artists over the lunch hour.
