St. Mary Oliver Night
Sunday June 4th – 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
7 Rossland Avenue at Merivale Road

LGBTQ2S+ members of faith communities are invited to an informal evening of poetry, creativity and kindness. If you have time, please print out a favourite poem (14 pt font suggested) in the spirit of the wonderfully wise observer of life and deeply spiritual Mary Oliver. It could be a favourite Mary Oliver poem or it could be any poem that like her poetry is insightful, hopeful, healing, witty, sassy, or draws us into a sense of ourselves as students of life on a journey. If you don’t have time or forget, there will be multiple back up plans available. Also if you find an entry from The New Galt Cook Book, pub. 1898 or anything else to be poetic in the above spirit, that is delightful and welcome. Scroll down this page for a few examples.

Light refreshments will be on hand. Any questions can be sent to Michelle at mjone038@uottawa.ca

She would love to know if you plan on attending, but just showing up is okay too.

Come with a thought I thank thee ~ Prospero

Morning in a New Land
In trees still dripping night some nameless birds
Woke, shook out their arrowy wings, and sang,
Slowly, like finches sifting through a dream.
The pink sun fell, like glass, into the fields.
Two chestnuts, and a dapple gray,
Their shoulders wet with light, their dark hair streaming,
Climbed the hill. The last mist fell away,
And under the trees, beyond time’s brittle drift,
I stood like Adam in his lonely garden
On that first morning, shaken out of sleep,
Rubbing his eyes, listening, parting the leaves,
Like tissue on some vast, incredible gift.

Forever Young (Editor’s Choice)
May God bless and keep you always,
May your wishes all come true,
May you always do for others
And let others do for you.

May you grow up to be righteous,
May you grow up to be true,
May you always know the truth
And see the lights surrounding you.

May your hands always be busy,
May your feet always be swift,
May you have a strong foundation
When the winds of changes shift.
May your heart always be joyful,
May your song always be sung,
May you stay forever young.
