Service of the Passion (Palm Sunday) – March 24th

Palm Sunday marks Jesus’ triumphant entry into Jerusalem, riding on a donkey as crowds laid palm branches at his feet, shouting “Hosanna.” This day signifies the beginning of Holy Week and serves as a reminder of the fickle nature of human allegiance. The palms, blessed during the service, are often taken home by worshippers as a symbol of victory and peace.

Maundy Thursday – March 28th

Maundy Thursday commemorates the Last Supper, where Jesus shared a meal with his disciples before his crucifixion. The term “Maundy” is derived from the Latin word “mandatum,” meaning commandment, referring to Jesus’ commandment to love one another. During this poignant service, Christians reflect on the significance of communion and Jesus’ act of washing his disciples’ feet as a gesture of humility and service.

Silent Prayer Vigil – March 28th / 29th

The vigil typically spans the time between Maundy Thursday evening and Good Friday morning. During this vigil, participants engage in a period of silent prayer and reflection. The purpose of the vigil is to foster a deep spiritual connection with the profound moments of the Passion of Christ and to prepare oneself for the joyous celebration of Easter Sunday.

Good Friday – March 29th

Good Friday is a day of solemn reflection on the crucifixion of Jesus Christ. Church services often include the Stations of the Cross, a devotional practice retracing Jesus’ steps to Calvary. Easter Sunday – March 31st

Easter Sunday celebrates the resurrection of Jesus Christ. The day begins with joyful Easter services, often held at sunrise, symbolizing the emergence of light after darkness. The Resurrection represents victory over sin and death, offering hope and redemption to believers. Many Easter traditions involve the sharing of meals, the ringing of bells, and the decoration of churches with lilies, symbolizing purity and new life.
