Service Assistant Sunday Services

January 31, 2024

In general, the Service Assistant’s role includes: to assist where necessary to make the service
go smoothly, e.g., facilitate prayers of the people and to ensure that key information is
recorded for annual parish reporting, i.e., attendance and financial offering, and help to make
people comfortable, e.g., windows, fans.

Before the Service
• Arrive at least 15 minutes before the service is to start.
• Ensure the prayer sheet binder (for Prayers of the People) is open to the correct date and
a pen is available.
• Open windows, turn on lights and fans as appropriate.

During the Service
• Count the number of people in the congregation and record the attendance on the
prayer sheet.
• After the second reading, take the prayer sheet up to the front and put it on the lectern
so it is there for the prayers just after the homily and the Apostle’s Creed.
• During the offertory hymn, take up the collection plate.

After the Service
• Ask the Dialpad support person how many participants were online and also record that
on the prayer sheet.
• Check to see if there are any additional offerings left at the back of the sanctuary. If so,
add them to the collection plate at the front. Then, put the collection in the lock-box in
the counting room.
• Take the attendance numbers from the prayer sheet and record them (those in person &
those online) in the vestry book, which is in the counting room.
• Return the collection plate and the prayer sheet to the back of the sanctuary.
• Close windows, turn off lights, turn down fans as appropriate.
