Columbarium Transition Project

Julian of Norwich Anglican has begun the Columbarium Transition Project and is reaching out to all families/individuals who have inurned remains and/or niche contracts.

The following information provides a highlight of the process:

During the planning process of our ministry renewal (1), we have learned that the Columbarium currently housed at Julian can no longer remain within the confines of a new church building and this we have begun a process to close the existing columbarium in accordance with the Funeral, Burial and Cremation Services Act (2002) and Regulations as administered by the Ontario Ministry of Government and Consumer Services and the Bereavement Authority of Ontario.

We do not take this responsibility lightly. Please take a look at our highlighting the progression that led us to determine two solutions that we are confident are appropriate long-term sustainable options for the loved ones in our care.

The two options are as follows:

  1. Relocate cremated remains and purchased niche ownership rights to a new Julian of Norwich Columbarium Monument, to be installed in the Spring of 2022 at the St’ John’s Anglican Cemetery (1876 Merivale Road).
  2. Relocate cremated remains and purchased niche ownership rights to The Columbarium at Christ Church Cathedral.

Families have been asked to review the background information and complete an Option Selection Form prior to December 1st, 2021. The form asks families to indicate their choice, sign and return a form to the Church so that the remains of loved ones will be moved to the location of the family’s choice.

To assist in making decisions, individuals and families have been asked to consider visiting the St. John’s Anglican Cemetery located at 1876 Merivale Road, just south of Hunt Club on the west side of Merivale Road, at their convenience.

Those wishing to visit the Columbarium at Christ Church Cathedral have been asked to make arrangements with the Cathedral for a tour by calling 613-236-9149 ext 29, or by visiting their website for more information:
